I was in trouble about my wife’s medical bill which we had never been claimed for 2 years because the hospital where my wife was hospitalized had sent the bill to the wrong address. It was too late to file a claim to the insurance company at that time due to their policy which accepts a claim within 18 month after service is provided. The hospital’s billing department told me that I was responsible for entire bill even though they had sent the bill wrong address. Attorney William G. Cherbonnier is an experienced New Orleans based attorney who proved to me he is a genuine consumer advocate. My family and I were displaced during Hurricane Katrina. We suffered tremendous loses. During a series of unfortunate events we lost our New Orleans home to a bank, I will not name. Now, in 2019, the statute of limitations has expired on a particular 2006 debt I defaulted on during the Housing crisis of 2008. I called several law firms and attorneys seeking someone to represent me to have the debt canceled because the six-year statute of limitations has expired. It was frustrating. No attorney would give me the time of day unless I put up a retainer first. They gave the impression they couldn’t be bothered because there wasn’t enough profit in defending my rights as a consumer. Now, I’m not saying all attorneys are greedy, but the ones I spoke to left me with that impression. Then, I made a cold call to Mr. Cherbonnier’s office. He answered the phone, asked a few questions, then proceeded over the next 30 minutes to help me better understand my legal position and the pros and cons of my case. He was very generous with his deep knowledge and his valuable time. I had been under a tremendous amount of stress. Just speaking with someone about my problem that was so generous, kind and professional, gave me hope. I never thought I would find myself in the situation of needing a consumer protection lawyer. I, like many consumers today, went immediately to the web and tried to find a good lawyer. I can only thank heaven that I found William Cherbonnier. Retiring after 43 years, part of which I spent as a contract manager, I thought myself a good negotiator. After a parent passed, I found myself heir to a property that had a reverse mortgage. I immediately let the mortgage company know of my parent's passing and was told that I would have a year to settle the debt on the property. Although I could not seem to get written communications from them, I felt I understood what they required. Nine months into the process, unexpectedly, I was notified that they were foreclosing and they refused to negotiate with me at all. They immediately started adding many large fees to my payoff balance. I was totally intimidated by their cold legal stand. I had to get help. From my initial call, Mr Cherbonnier was very helpful, he personally accepted my calls and took the time to explain what the process should have been. He was supportive, attentive and passionate about my rights. He impressed me with his ability to negotiate for me. He responded to calls and emails in a timely manner and always made me feel that I was justified in my efforts.
