Power of Attorney

While preparing for the future and the unknown, it is important to have a Durable Power of Attorney (POA) in the unlikely event you become unable to make certain decisions. There are two common types of Durable POAs: Financial and Medical.

Durable Financial Power of Attorney

The Durable Financial POA allows you to designate a person to handle your financial affairs when you are unable to whether due to illness, age, or a serious accident. It is important to designate a person who is responsible with finances and who you trust to handle your money, property, vehicles, jewelry, boats, and all your other assets.

Durable Medical Power of Attorney

The Durable Medical POA, or Healthcare POA, allows you to designate a person to make medical decisions on your behalf if you become unable to. This is different than a living will because a living solely details which medical treatments you do or do not want to receive, while a Healthcare POA designates the person you trust to fulfill those wishes on your behalf.
